Virginia Whitten papers 1973-1994

Virginia Whitten was a friend of Governor Ann Richards and served as archivist for her inauguration in 1991. Records include correspondence; memoranda; press releases; news clippings; newsletters; photographic material including prints, slides, contact sheets, and negatives; samples of invitations; and other artifacts and memorabilia. Records date from 1976 to 1992 and relate primarily to the celebrations surrounding the 1991 inauguration of Ann Richards as governor and Bob Bullock as lieutenant governor of Texas. Earlier records document Ann Richards' political offices as county commissioner for Travis county and as state treasurer. A few records date from the early years of her tenure as governor of Texas. Correspondence reflects the close relationship that existed between Governor Ann Richards and Virginia Whitten.
